Style News March 2018
Hit the ground running as we head into the new season of fashion. We are saying goodbye to summer and welcoming the autumn/winter fashion season.
Specsavers
Freshen up your look with new frames this season. Paying homage to the Scandinavian design movement of the 1960s and 70s, Specsavers has just released a new in-house-designed collection called SCANDiMANiA. The eyewear in the collection features bold design elements of hard angles and geometric forms, paired with a minimal, vintage aesthetic creating a strong ‘throw-back’ story. Designing the collection in-house allows the team to regularly update the styles in this collection and the pieces will be refreshed every six months. This avant-garde collection is for the style conscious and trend-minded individual. The collection is available from Auckland CBD, Newmarket, Riccarton Westfield, Takapuna, St Lukes, Wellington South and Wellington Lambton Specsavers stores.
Montblanc
Montblanc’s latest great character edition is a tribute to The Beatles, one of the most famous bands of all time. Led by primary songwriters John Lennon and Paul McCartney, their ideas were often taken up by the youth and counterculture of the 1960s. The cone is inspired by the button of the mixing table at the famous Abbey Road studios, while the cap top is inspired by the studio’s microphone. The clip symbolises the iconic moustache of the Beatles on their portrait. The colourful stripes on the lacquered cap and barrel pay tribute to the costumes they wore on the album covers of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and Love Me Do.
Workshop
Workshop is an iconic New Zealand label, they are constantly challenging trends yet staying true to their brand ethos. Their AW/18 collection is no exception, it features pieces with perfectly tailored cuts and an on-trend palette. The collection has an Aotearoa Merino Knitwear range, which is made using a specialist technique that reduces waste and production time – making a more sustainable product. Going back to their roots in this new collection, Workshop have also designed a leather story that channels iconic leather looks such as the ‘zip-front leather jacket’ and ‘leather pocket slim fit stretch jean’.
Dior Homme
This season, more is more – especially on the sneaker front. So put aside your white, minimal sneakers to make room for the new trend. And a little hint: dads around the world have been hitting this trend for years already. That’s right; the bolder, brighter and bigger, the better when it comes to choosing your next ‘dad sneaker’. These sneakers – from the sporty northern hemisphere spring/summer 2018 Dior Homme collection – tick all of the boxes and, coming from Dior Homme, you know they are going to be exceptional.
Valentino
Last year I discovered a fragrance I fell in love with, and that was Valentino Uomo Intense, so naturally I was very excited when I saw the news that Valentino is back with another addition to their fragrance collection: Valentino Intense Acqua. It is an elegant and elevated fragrance, more summery than the other leathery fragrances in the collection. Composed by Alexis Dadier and Sophie Labbe, this fragrance is a contemporary exploration of freshness and intensity with a palette of the aromatic green of an Italian garden, laced with mandarin, citron and green tomato. This fragrance easily found its way to the top of my favourites list.
