The Best Consumer Tech To Pick Up This Year So Far
We’ve pulled together our top consumer tech picks so far this year.
GilletteLabs Heated Razor Starter Kit
Gillette has found a way to fold a warm towel into a razor. A heating pad on the razor itself can heat up within a second and can produce two heat options of 43 or 50C. This gives a warm soothing sensation as you shave, achieving optimal comfort. Four intelligent heat sensors maintain a safe, even and consistent warmth throughout each shaving stroke. Once you’re done, simply stand it vertically in its magnetic wireless charging stand which provides enough juice for seven shaves.
Get Bentley
If you haven’t made a pair of headphones yet, are you even a car company? What better way to put your idle designers to good use but to team up with Focal and bring out a pair of beautiful headphones. Sporting Bentley’s iconic ‘Diamond’ quilting, high-end Focal technologies and copper finishes this set of cans is dressed to impress. It comes with a rigid body case and a 4 metre long 24 AWG cable with a 3.5mm plug and adapter. Soft leather and fit make it a comfortable wear for long sessions. It has a great range of 5 Hz – 23 kHz and impedance of 35Ω.
Gold is Power
The issue with smartphone Powerbanks is that they’re usually a bit bulky and ugly. The LifeCard Ultra on the other hand is as thick as three credit cards and is coated in 20 karat rose gold. It has a 1500 mAh capacity and its Apple lightning MFi charging cable is built in. It’s pretty short though so it won’t be going far from your phone once it’s plugged in!
PowerMask by Silent Mode
Now that we’re out of isolation (at the time of writing), we can start to properly value silence again now that we’re commuting every day. Silentmode is for people who value working out their mind as much as their body. Strap it around your face and prepare for powernaps, proprietary breathing workouts and relaxation programmes. Perfect for bringing down anxiety during long trips or getting in touch with yourself again in the morning or evenings.
Kobo Libra H20
The Kobo Libra H20 is the Kindle killer as far as I’m concerned. Within moments of booting it up for the first time, you can be quickly connected to your local NZ library and borrowing e-pubs. It’s a feature I’ve seen touted on a couple other E-readers, but I’ve never seen any be as seamless as Kobo. Its odd formfactor has two buttons for easy page turning, if swiping the screen is too much effort for you.
Having a thick border on one side means you can easily grip it without obscuring the screen or straining your hand. Its crisp 7” 300 PPI E-ink screen switches between portrait and landscape in a snap. It’s fully waterproof and, from personal experience, it has about 2 weeks of charge. For low light reading in bed, it also has a built in ComfortLight PRO which makes the whole screen glow, but not in the harsh, eyeball splitting way your phone does in a dark room. I’m giving the Kobo Libra H20 my personal seal of approval.
Carl Smart Side Table
It’s not often you need to consider whether your tech matches your decor, but the Carl Smart Side Table is worth the consideration. It sports a contemporary solid wood frame with a crystal glass top packed full of fast wireless charging technology touch sensitive controls for the hidden Bluetooth speakers as well as two USB charging ports. No longer will the phones of your guests be unceremoniously relegated to the corner of the lounge next to the last spare power point.
