The Excalibur Spider Pirelli Monotourbillon (MT) Only Happens Once Every 150 Years
Unveiled at the same time as the Singapore Grand Prix, the brand new Roger Dubuis x Pirelli creation is a pure celebration of racing legends. Dubbed the Excalibur Spider Pirelli Monotourbillon (MT), it takes many nods and notes from Pirelli’s long history and adds its own unique flavour to the mix. Unfortunately it’s being limited to just eight pieces.
Starting with the case and bezel, it’s a strong 45mm case made from pure white Mineral Composite Fibre (MCF). You won’t be seeing this material around much. Dubbed a “hyper-tech material”, it’s owned exclusively by Roger Dubuis. Essentially it’s used Sheet Molding Compound to engineer silica into MCF, which itself is 13% lighter than SMC carbon. There are plenty of colourways to choose from in the Excalibur line, but this special edition Pirelli Monotourbillon is the only one in this stunning white.
At the seven o’clock you can see the iconic Monotourbillon proudly on display. Tucked away at the 9 o’clock is the power reserve indicator, styled after a car’s fuel gage. You won’t need to worry about running out of gas any time soon though. It has an incredible amount of hand-finished mechanics, and each are rewarded with some of the most demanding certification, the Poinçon de Genève.
Changing the mood of the timepiece is easy with its Quick Release System, making switching out the strap, crown and bezel easy.
Hidden within its design is Pirelli Cinturato’s motto “power is nothing without control”. Whoever does control one of these eight watches has probably already taken this lesson to heart.
