The Future Of Public Transport
Space and speed are vital components to ride sharing companies. The ubiquitous nature of ride sharing has been a common trend over the years. Companies like Uber or Lyft have given drivers (and passengers, for that matter) a different outlook on the taxi experience. If we are to look to the future though, we need to think of new, innovative ways to capitalise on these big ideas.
London-based industrial design and innovation company, Seymourpowell, have revealed in the last couple of months a new ride hailing service that ensures complete privacy. Dubbed the Quarter Car, the compact design will be divided up into four compartments, each sporting a business-class style seat. Separating partitions divide the vehicle, and can be retracted to open or close the interior.
What it lacks in speed, it makes up for in space. Though relatively compact, at just 4.15 metres in length, 1.7 metres high and 1.8 metres wide, the Quarter Car isn’t so much concerned by aerodynamics, but by other metrics like sustainable material content production method and daily usage data.
On the interior of this electric vehicle, transparent windows will include glazing displays, gesture interaction and artificial intelligence. With the retractable cabin spaces, the concept of efficiency makes this concept a lot more appealing than UberPool, where strangers share space with others.
The act of easily picking up new passengers along a route without disturbing the others is what makes this ride unique. As mobility evolves, so too will the need for innovations of ride sharing.
