The Next Revolution
The next revolution in photography has landed as the Sony World Photography Awards, an annual competition held by the World Photography Organization. A stunning celebration of capturing life’s most precious moments with just one click. On its 11th year (and counting), the awards are back and bigger than ever. Over 320,000 entries were considered last year from more than 200 countries.
These awards showcase the best photographers on 10 separate categories, from portrait to action to nature shots. Just look at the photographs on offer and you will see. There’s vibrancy and intellect with the camera. Each picture pops and draws the viewer in closer it seems. This year, the awards have shown an array of compositions, from a portrait of a gentleman in a canary-yellow turtleneck, to a nature scene, to a young minotaur. It’s true…pictures really do tell a beautiful story and in this 2018 series, the stories are vast and complex. The winning images are being displayed in an exhibition at Somerset House, London until the 6th of May. The exhibition is curated by Mike Trow, ex-Picture Editor of British Vogue.
