These Scripts Written By AI Are Hilarious & Make You Question The Nature of Humanity
What happens when you get a bot to analyse thousands of movie scripts? Apparently ready made comedy. Suspiciously perfect scripts have been cranked out by comedy writer Keaton Patti in collaboration with bots and algorithms. The situations are as absurd as they are hilarious. The scripts range across all genres and capture the tone perfectly. At this point Keaton, who’s worked for The Onion & Comedy Central (and should definitely not be trusted with anything) has made so many of these scripts that they have coagulated into a book.
The scripts use a perfect blend of bot gobbledygook word salad to hide a well crafted joke with a solid punchline. This has led many to question whether any soulless automaton even had a hand in it to begin with. But since it’s been tweeted out by a blue check on Twitter I think we can be fairly certain it has.
When Alan Turing devised his test nobody was expecting humans to question whether or not people would begin pretending to be bots and muddy the water. How are you supposed to know when you’re dealing with a bot and when you’re getting catfished. Even humans can fail a captcha on purpose.
This exercise forces you to come to terms with the product you’re consuming. You can wrestle with whether we enjoy these scripts more because our bar has been lowered because we don’t expect anything brilliant to come out of an algorithms mouth. Or we can enjoy the scripts on their own merits. It’s like drinking unmarked wine and enjoying purely for how it tastes. It’s still wine, even if you don’t know how snobby you should be about its price and pedigree.
