This Whisky Was Barrelled before WWII
Imagine, you’re a bunch of proto-humans smashing bones and figuring out tools for Stanley Kubrik when suddenly out of the sky appears a bottle of the finest Macallan ever made. Macallan wants to recreate this moment with their TIME: SPACE Collection to celebrate 200 years of business.
Their first bottle is a pretty incredible achievement by itself, It started brewing back in WWII in 1940. It was bottled at an amazing 84 years old. It’s partner was distilled in 2018 at their new brewery, and bottled at 5, meaning the collection is both a reflection of where they have been and where they are going.
Only 200 are in existence and the bottles have two chambers to hold each of the whiskies. The outer chamber is the 1940 vintage. It was produced in a first fill American Oak Butt
and second fill European Oak Butt. It was Bottled at 43.6% ABV and seasoned with sherry in Jerez de la Frontera and matured in Speyside, Scotland.
The central chamber contains the 2018 single malt which Macallan spent arduous amounts of time ensuring tasted the same as their old distillery. The container is displayed in an oak sculpture which has been purposefully designed to accentuate the 100% natural colour of the whisky, and alternate layers of American oak and European oak have been selected to craft the display sculpture, as a homage to the brand’s commitment to sherry seasoned oak casks.
And why the circle design? The circle of life. It’s whisky.
