Three Things That Will Help You Live Longer
Staying healthy is the key to a strong biological age which gives us the edge over the one thing we’re constantly fighting, chronological age. This month we’ve found the things we eat, drink, and supplement to help you along your journey.
Low Cholesterol Or A house?
Researchers from Pennsylvania State University have found that eating one avocado a day results in significantly lower “bad” LDL cholesterol in moderate fat diets. Adding it to subjects diets also had the bonus of improving lutein levels, which plays a role in eye health.
Previous studies have also confirmed that your humble avo can bring down LDL levels, so it’s nice to have more confirmation.
So it’s your choice, do you want to ever fulfill your dream of owning property, or are you going to blow your deposit on 365 avocado’s a year?
Real Coffee Good, Instant Not So Much
Coffee, like chocolate, goes in and out of vogue with each new study that releases. The latest from Queen Mary University of London and the Budapest Semmelweis University used a massive dataset of 468,629 UK participants.
The results showed that having up to three cups of coffee a day has a protective effect on heart health. It also reduces the overall mortality rate and the risk of stroke.
Dr. Judit Simon, PhD student at the Semmelweis University, who led the study said: “Light-to-moderate coffee consumption was associated with a 12% lower risk of overall mortality, and with a 17% lower risk of death caused by cardiovascular diseases compared to non-coffee drinkers. In addition, from half to three cups of coffee was associated with a 21% lower risk of stroke.”
Benefits taper at this point, more than three didn’t equal better results.
Co-author Dr. Zahra Raisi-Estabragh, NIHR Clinical Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London, said: “Most of the participants drank either ground or instant coffee. The ground coffee in moderate amounts was associated with lower mortality risk – but this benefit was not found amongst the regular instant coffee drinkers.”
AGE IS JUST A NUMBER
SRW Laboratories, the company that brought us the Cellular System Range, a range of supplements that support healthy ageing at a cellular level, brings us another innovative product, which is a New Zealand first.
The DNAᵃᵍᵉ is an at-home epigenetic, saliva-based DNA test kit, which is conveniently boxed up, delivered to your door, so it can be done in the comfort of your own home. This kit allows customers to see how quickly their cells are ageing based on your DNAmethylation. Recent research has shown that factors such as sleep, pollution, alcohol consumption, stress, exercise, obesity, and diet can speed up the process of biological aging. If your biological age is older than expected, this suggests you are ageing faster than the general population, and vice versa. Getting a hold of this information could assist you in safeguarding your future as studies suggest that an accelerated biological age may mean you experience some of the health conditions associated with advancing age earlier. Discover your biological age with DNAᵃᵍᵉ and use this information to your advantage and have it help you make lifestyle changes to influence your biological age and help increase your chances of a long healthy life.
