How To Turn Your Opportunities Into Success
Are you going to get off your arse this year and turn your opportunities into success?
New Zealand needs you (yes, all of you) to be very successful! Success is defined differently by different people, and while this means a resulting wide range of varied outcomes, it is undisputed that we are all capable of greater success.
Over the Christmas break, I have met and talked with a wide variety of people, young and old, with varied backgrounds and levels of education, living all around the country. It seems everyone has an opinion about the affordability and cost of housing; whether there are still enough opportunities for everyday people to get ahead; and what their future holds.
The more people I talked to, the more obvious it was that people fall into three quite separate groups:
- Those that are open minded and believe their destiny is a consequence of their actions and effort.
- Those that think it is all controlled by someone else and they can’t do anything about it.
- Those that think it is a combination of the first two.
The third group appears to appeal most to the Kiwi psyche, but the disturbing thing was how few people are in the first group.
This country was built on self-belief, creativity and resilience, woven into a stoic can-do attitude. There have never been more opportunities to get on than there are right now, due to the wider world being closer and more available, and us being in a time of unprecedented change.
You have a significant part to play in making this country the best in the world. If everyone could just find a way to be 10 percent more successful in 2018 than they were in 2017. Everyone has a responsibility to themselves, but they also have a role to play in the success of their family, their community and the business they work in or for. All this equates to slightly better incomes, more savings, better health, less welfare, less crime, fewer prisons, more momentum, better tax income, better services and happier, safer communities.
The point I am making here is: if you all step up and do the work and increase your success by 10 percent this year, the ‘power of many’ will make a huge difference. When that is repeated year on year, we will once again have the best country in the world.
Everyone was born to be a success and, in most cases, all you have to do is stop the negative talk, make a commitment to get off your arse and maintain an open mind then take total responsibility for the results and success you get.
There is no room anywhere for ‘I haven’t got the right qualification’, ‘I haven’t got time’, ‘I don’t know how’, because these are all excuses and are just a mechanism to avoid taking responsibility!
I want those of you that make a commitment to get inspired by this article to share it with two other people, who will do it too, on the basis of your influence. When they then share it with two more people, we would have the start of a revolution… and just think about the results!
Do it for yourself and for your family, but even more importantly, do it to make a difference!
