Urban Air Port, The Future Of Flight In London
Ah, Coventry. Such a gorgeously brimming and buzzing metropolitan burrow situated a stone’s-throw from London in the UK. Soon it will thrust England into the future later this year with Uber-Air, showing investors how flying taxis can fit into urban centres. Urban-Air Port, a British-based start-up, has partnered with Hyundai Motor to start developing the bones of the future.
Called Air-One, the plan is for the Urban-Air Port to be constructed within a matter of days, and will be located just off the A444. The retractable landing pads will be 40 metres in diameter and allow easy access to eVTOL vehicles. There are currently no flying cars or passenger-carrying drones operating (as of yet) in the UK, but here’s hoping that soon the tiny airport will be used for all sorts of flying vehicles in Coventry, cutting down on their air pollution and making getting around a breeze. Literally.
According to the Official Urban Air-Port website, the hub is “an ultra-compact, rapidly deployable, multi-functional operations hub for manned and unmanned vehicles providing aircraft command and control, charging/refuelling, cargo and passenger loading and other mission specific facilities”.
