The new trailer The Matrix Resurrections, the fourth movie in The Matrix series, just dropped and everybody is hyped. Everyone you expect to see is missing, and everyone you’re not is now hanging out like nothing ever happened. In fact, it really is like nothing ever happened. Neo is plugged back in, and his memories of the past are being suppressed by his prescription of blue pills. Trinity is alive and well, or at least, a simulacrum of her is. Morpheus is nowhere in sight, although a kind of doppleganger is. In fact, a whole host of pre-existing characters seem to have younger counterparts in this film.
We should note that both Neo and Trinity died at the end of the third films, rebooting the matrix and creating a tentative peace between robots and humans. The question is, do either of these two have a body to go back to outside of the program.
The movies did establish, among all the gun-fu, that Neo is not in fact unique. He was the sixth anomaly in the system, and all of this goes around and around. Is this new film showing us the seventh anomaly?
The Matrix Resurrections drops in NZ on January 1st 2022.
