Watch The Spinoff to What We Do In the Shadows Now
What We Do In The Shadows was an instant kiwi classic when it came out just like everything else Taika Waititi has done. You might remember him as 2015’s M2 Man of the Year, or from little films like Thor: Ragnarok or Hunt for the Wilderpeople. I Digress. If you were wanting a little bit more of the intriguing Wellington underworld then Wellington Paranormal has you covered.
When What We Do In The Shadows was first released, it was accompanied by a couple of mockumentary skits about the Wellington area. This style of filmmaking had so much potential that there was no way we weren’t going to get a spinoff eventually.
Returning to the world, Wellington Paranormal follows the two clueless cops from the movie Minogue and O’Leary, and includes other familiar faces like Dion the Werewolf and Nick the Vampire. The great part about watching this homegrown drama is seeing landmarks like the Cuba Bucket Fountain reimagined as hell mouths.
Think Police Ten 7 if the cops were dealing with ghost girls climbing up the sides of interrogation cells.
There are six episodes in the season ready to be binged at any time, and fingers crossed it gets renewed for a second season. Jemaine Clement pulled double duty as writer and director/executive producer while Taika Waititi took an executive producer credit for the show.
If you were looking for some good Kiwi comedy to fill your evenings with, you really can’t go wrong with Wellington Paranormal.
