Watches & Wonders 2024: Panerai
Submersible QuarantaQuattro Luna Rossa Ti-Ceramitech
How do we feel about celebrating other America’s Cup teams? Let’s say this is one page is neutral ground so we can talk a little about Italy’s Luna Rossa team and the timepiece that Panerai has made for them, the Submersible Quaranta Quattro Luna Rossa Ti-Ceramitech (PAM01466). It makes sense these two Italian legends would work together on a watch. The America’s Cup teams are constantly pushing the boundaries of what is able to be achieved, and so is Panerai. The 44 mm Ti-Ceramitech case is based on the hard and sporty materials used by sailors which is 44% lighter than steel and 10 times stronger than your standard ceramics. Over the course of seven years they have developed a patented process of titanium ceramization which creates a distinctive blue. The straps are a bi-material rubber and textile made from micro-sandblasted titanium. The dial, powered by a self winding P.600 Calibre, is minimal with a date window at the 3 o’clock and a small seconds hand sundial at 9 o’clock. It’s water resistant up to 500 meters, because what’s the point if your yachties can’t wear it.
