Will Alexander of Property Brokers, Talks Current Affairs
Will Alexander, General Manager of Property Management at Property Brokers, talks to M2 for the Man on the Street series.
What advice would you give your 20-year-old self?
You will be a lot different in twenty years time! I would say, others will develop more quickly than you, but eventually, you find your way. And you will have a wonderful family.
What is the secret to success?
I don’t feel successful, so that is probably the key! Never content and always looking to push yourself and those around you. And avoid surrounding yourself with “yes” people.
What is the worst mistake you’ve made, and how did you fix it?
Jeepers, where do I start. I have made a lot, but I guess what comes in time is taking ownership of it and dealing with it. What all my mistakes have taught me is to have humility and say sorry when you stuff up. You also get better at not making so many mistakes. Well, at least the same mistakes.
What is your advice for people to find their dream?
Surround yourself with people that inspire you and people who will give you honest feedback. Always look to be inspired as well. It is something that really motivates the soul.
What is the best bit of advice or quote that resonates with you?
Up a mountain, down a beer. While it is awesome to get insanely fit and do well in events, my advice is, don’t become boring and only be fit and do well in events. The same goes for working and careers. Life is about balance.
How do you keep up to date with current affairs?
Within my industry, I am always reading and talking to people around the country. I am a big believer in keeping your ear to the grindstone and making sure you talk to people at all levels of the business. Outside of work, I am very selective about what I pay attention to. For example, I have never been on social media, with the exception of LinkedIn, which I use for business. I read extensively across the industries that interest me, such as Engineering, Aerospace, Physics, Astronomy, Nuclear Physics, Technology, Running, Riding, etc.
What is the secret of living a longer, more successful life?
Keep your mind active. Both my parents are in their mid 70’s – one is still a CEO, and one has just developed a treatment for Covid. Keeping the mind active and having an interest and a passion, I think, is really important.
What makes you feel alive?
Dreaming of ideas, achieving goals and thinking of ways to solve problems. Talking to interesting people. Running with my wife. Training hard for events and standing on the start line, ready to go. My kids. Seeing others succeed.
