Lexus Takes To The Seas
Lexus has taken its design aesthetic and its penchant for style to the seas and it could be yours.
The project started when Toyota Motor Corporation President, Akio Toyoda, was invited to check out what the Toyota Marine Department had been up to. After getting on the water with the new Ponam range and giving them a spin, he realised that this could be a concept that fits Lexus. They took the design brief to two separate design team to duke it out.
Fast forward to today and they now have a running proof of concept blasting around Miami beach.
“This concept for a Lexus Sport Yacht allowed us to explore how Lexus design language could be applied to a maritime idea,” Executive Vice President of Lexus International, Yoshihiro Sawa said,
“For the Lexus Design Centre this project has been very exciting.”
“The effort is valuable to us as it stirs our creative energies and pushes our imagination to design and lifestyle possibilities outside of the automotive realm we know well,” Sawa said.
The yacht has an overall length of 12.7 metres and a width of 3.86 metres and it can fit eight people comfortably.
Under the hood it has impressive twin 5.0-litre V8 gasoline engines, based on the 2UR-GSE high-performance engine of the Lexus RC F coupe, the GS F sport sedan and the new LC 500 grand tourer. Each engine produces over 440 horsepower and gets the yacht to 43 knots.
On the interior, in the forward passenger cabin, is an inviting standing height sofa seating for six with a table, and air conditioning, all made with luxurious Lexus leather with wood and glass details.
The galley features a two-burner stove, sink and under-counter refrigerator, and a beautifully finished head includes a shower.
Unfortunately, the yacht is a one off concept, so we might never see these made regularly. At the moment I guess you could consider it an exclusive limited edition model.
