Advice For People To Fund A Dream From Brendon Lee
We talk to General Manager, Brendon Lee, on his bucket list, advice for his 20 year old self and how people can fund a dream.
What are the top three things on your bucket list?
1. Talk investment strategy with Warren Buffet and Charlie Munger.
2. Workout session with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.
3. Being live at Madison Square Garden, NYC, to watch an NBA game.
What advice would you give your 20 year-old self?
Don’t be afraid of being judged by others. I spent way too much time worrying about what other people might think, but you’ve just got to put yourself out there and think about the dreams you want to achieve.
Also, enjoy life along the way and don’t take yourself too seriously.
How do you stay motivated?
I set and continually re-set my goals and visualise them down to the most minute detail. I make a list of the reasons why I want to accomplish them and then break them down into smaller bite-sized realistic steps as it feels really good when you hit them.
If you didn’t need money, what would you do?
I would love to mentor a younger professional looking to kickstart their career. Also, be a public speaker. It scares the crap out of me, which is why I’m so drawn to it.
What is the secret to success?
Being prepared to pull the trigger when you find that opportunity. Success won’t fall in your lap, you have to get out there and pursue it –one foot in front of the other and start the journey. Then it’s hard work, grit and the willingness to throw everything at it.
What is the worst mistake you’ve made and how did you fix it?
I try not to think about past experiences as mistakes, but rather learning opportunities which I can take on board and grow from.
What is your advice for people to fund their dream?
Having a complete understanding of the numbers that drive your business or project if you’re wanting to raise capital. You have to prove that your idea is a worthy investment so being fanatical when it comes to the financials is imperative!
What is the best bit of advice, or quote, that resonates with you?
Action cures fear.
What’s your favourite restaurant?
There’s a great restaurant in our neigbourhood called Fife Lane which has exceptional meat – in particular the Savannah Angus from the West Coast. They use an awesome closed barbecue type oven which results in a delicious charcoal grill aroma and flavour. There’s also the luxury of choosing your own steak knife which is a novelty.
