An Online Casino Wants To Pay You $10,000 To Rewatch The Simpsons
If you’re even remotely active online, you’ve no doubt at some point come across the “Simpsons Prediction” theory. Seemingly time and time again, the iconic animated series The Simpsons has depicted events in its episode which miraculously become reality years later. From the Siegfried and Roy tiger attack to the 2014 American Ebola outbreak to smartwatches to the Presidency of Donald Trump (in an episode aired all the way back in 2000!), The Simpsons have somehow time and time again, been able to speak it into existence, no matter how unlikely or ridiculous the reference may seem. Some would, and have, argued that The Simpsons knack for showcasing future events years before they occur simply comes down to its age (the show started all the way in 1989), length (spanning over 700 episodes and counting) and a strong sense of cultural trends. Others believe in far more convoluted explanations, such as the theory that show creator Matt Groening is actually a time traveler who’s been to the future and seen it all already.
While the “Matt Groening: Time Traveler” version of the theory is, err… let’s say unconfirmed, there is plenty of evidence to support the idea that, for whatever reason, The Simpsons writers had/have displayed a bizarre tendency to project a scenario on screen years before it plays out in real life. Whatever the explanation for this may be, British online gambling site PlatinCasino are all in on the theory and are looking to get ahead of the curve, offering a rather unconventional opportunity for those in dire need of some extra cash.
Posting a job listing titled ‘Simpsons Series Analyst’ last week, the site is looking for someone to scour the series and identify the next Simpsons premonitions to come to light, offering the successful applicant a sum of £5,000 (just shy of $10,000 NZD) to watch the entire series over an eight-week period. While this might sound like a pretty cruisy gig, the Simpsons catalogue is pretty daunting as the show is still going strong, now in the midst of its 33rd season on the airwaves. The listing asserts that the ‘analyst’ will have to weed through over 284 hours of Simpsons content (including the 2008 feature film) and spend around 35.5 hours a week glued to the screen watching and studying the misadventures of America’s most iconic suburban cartoon family. Beyond the task of simply maintaining the attention span on the screen day-in-day-out for eight-weeks straight, the analyst must take notes and be on the lookout for whatever could be the next discovery in the Simpsons Prediction theory. PlatinCasino then plans to review the analysts’ findings and use them to set odds on what the next Simpsons-predicted world event might be.
While it sounds like a heck of a task, $10,000 to sit on the couch and absorb one of the greatest shows ever written sounds a lot better way to make a buck than stocking shelves or mopping floors. If nothing else, the successful applicant is going to make for an unstoppable Simpsons trivia player when all is said and done.
