Celebrating The Beauty Of Winter With The Grand Seiko SBGY008
Many lament the annual adjustment that we are asked to make when the climate commits to its seasonal change. As we are forced to bid a rueful farewell to the sparkling sunny mornings and long, warm nights of summer and accept the teeth-chattering chill of winter, those with a more optimistic outlook gleefully anticipate the natural wonders that the brisk season can provide. One of the many unique winter phenomenon’s hailed in Japan is known as Shizuri-Yuki, a visual delight created by the flow of falling snow which tumbles from the branches of the trees during days of heavy snowfall. Paying homage to this alluring natural sensation is Grand Seiko’s latest piece, the Grand Seiko SBGY008. Another piece that showcases Grand Seiko’s heralded Spring Drive technology, this work captures the tranquil, beauty of the Japanese winter. At the centre is a gorgeous though understated textured snow-white dial, the perfect translation of the shizuri-yuki phenomena.
Enveloping the dial is an equally delectable 18 karat rose-gold case, the sides of which adorned with a row of beautiful sparkling diamonds, shimmering like the winter icicles when graced with the rare winter sun and installed by hand by the master craftsmen and women at Grand Seiko’s famed Shinshu Watch Studio. The ethereal dial is enriched with a stunning dual-curved sapphire crystal glass, coated with an anti-reflective solution to ensure view of the dial is completely uncorrupted. Behind the fantastic front-facing features is Grand Seiko’s highly regarded in-house Calibre 9R31, providing a 72-hour power reserve. Tying the piece together is a unique two toned crocodile leather strap, equals parts smart and comfortable.
The limited edition Grand Seiko SBGY008 joins Grand Seiko’s fantastic Elegance Collection and will be available at Grand Seiko Boutiques and selected Grand Seiko retailers from January 2022.
