Ride The Roads And The Waves With The Awesome ‘Biski’
What are the coolest modes of transportation in the world (and no one say the Millenium Falcon, I’m talking about things that actually exist)? A jetski? Pretty damn cool, nothing is quite like the spray of ocean water coating you as cruise on those waves. How about a motorbike? Zooming along the open roads with the rush of the wind blasting past you. Now, just imagine that you could combine those two awesome rides and create one ridiculous hybrid land/sea vehicle. To some, that would sound too crazy to fathom. Apparently not to the genius minds of Gibbs Amphibians, who have brought that idea to life with the Biski, a stunning creation which combines the two thrilling motorised experiences into one bi-functional vehicle.
Using the company’s finely tuned High-Speed Amphibian (HSA) technology, the Biski is more than just a gimmick and as you can see from the video demonstrations, its remarkably competent given the audacious nature of its premise.
As a motorbike, the Biski runs on a two-cylinder petrol engine and is capable of reaching a fairly modest top speed of 130km/h. It takes only seconds to convert to the jet ski setting, which operates using Gibbs Custom Dual-Jet Technology, propelling the Biski to speeds of up to 60km/h on the water. It’s quite a sight to watch the Biski transition from bike to ski, as the wheels cleverly lock into built-in slots inside the chassis at the touch of a button, allowing for limited drag and maximising the vehicles aquatic capabilities.
Gibbs Amphibians is the brainchild of a local product, esteemed Kiwi businessman Alan Gibbs, who founded the company in the late 90’s after developing an interest in the potential for amphibious transport. The company is probably most well known for the Gibbs Aquada, one of its amphibious cars which received about as a big of a first-hand endorsement as one can in 2004 when it was driven by Richard Branson (you might’ve heard of him) in a world record-setting demonstration on the English Channel and was then subsequently prominently featured on an episode of Top Gear.
Gibbs Amphibians have developed a fascinatingly diverse range of amphibious vehicles, from small, single seat thrill rides like the Biski to rescue utilities like their four-wheel-drive Humdinga. Though not all vehicles are currently for sale, you can marvel at their full range and get the full scope of how it all works over on their website.
