The Place To Go: Erg Chebbi Desert Luxury Camp
One of earth’s most stunning, untouched landscapes, Morocco is in a world of its own. The dizzying delicacy of the people and texture of such an ancient, iconic place really makes it a pleasure to visit for any traveller. Lots of travellers go to Morocco on their OE and pictures are shared on Facebook of them on camelback wearing traditional Moroccan garb. What if that same experience can be had, but with a hint of luxury?
Created by two adventure-seeking friends, Abdou and Hamid, the Erg Chebbi Luxury Desert Camp is the answer to that equation. The glistening ruby in Morocco’s crown gives guests a chance to truly experience the marvellous culture of the traditional desert-dwellers.
Getting to the hotel is half the excitement. Either drive over the Atlas Mountains in a specialized 4×4, or take a flight in your own private helicopter. Guests will arrive at five luxury sleeping tents lined in the sand dunes, that are designed with traditional Moroccan decor.
Each tent comes with beds, complimentary drinks, running water with the desert views and sand dunes peeking through your tent flaps. A tented restaurant offers a traditional three course meal served at dinner. Traditional salads, soups, tajin, lamb mechoui or seasonal fruit and pastry are served for the guests to try.
Activities offered at the hotel are camel trekking, traditional Moroccan games, sandhamman (a traditional type of restorative treatment), stargazing and lots more. To have this wonderful experience, one has to pay €200 a night. For a private room, you’re looking at a more elevated €300.
