Bond Under the Hammer – All the Moore for Me
Later this year in October parts of the late Roger Moore’s private bond collection will be going under the hammer. As the fourth actor to play Bond, Moore brought the spy to life in Live and Let Die (1973), The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), For Your Eyes Only (1981), Octopussy (1983), and A View to a Kill (1985).
Care of Bonhams the collection includes A ’50 Years of 007′ limited edition automatic calendar bracelet watch Seamaster by Omega, and A Douglas Hayward single-button mohair dinner suit made for the actor and used in Octopussy. These pieces are expected to fetch upwards of $60,000 each. Possibly more if there are enough rabid bond fans loitering around.
Other pieces include his Hollywood Walk of Fame presentation plaque, various Mont Blanc cufflinks, and yet another watch by Omega, a Speedmaster Automatic MK40. This isn’t supposed to be some sort of tie-in with the feature on the next page, Moore just knew a good watch when he was bequeathed one.
In 2008 Moore told Entertainment that he may have been Flemmings first choice to play the character. But “Ian Fleming didn’t know me from s—. He wanted Cary Grant or David Niven.”
The actor was charming and modest to the very end. Personally I reckon owning a piece of his collection would be an honour.
