Classic Games Getting The Love
Just because a game is old doesn’t mean it shouldn’t get free updates. Here are our top picks for classic games getting a little revival.
Resident Evil 4: The Mercenaries
RE4 first dropped in 2005 on the PS2. That didn’t stop the timeless classic from re-releasing on Quest 2 and becoming the stores biggest selling game. It’s always exciting being able to play classic games in a new way, and RE:4 on the Quest is incredible. But they aren’t done with it yet. A new update called “The Mercenaries” brings a horde mode and added levels which brings an arcadey take to RE’s combat. The free update dropping sometime in 2022 will also add a range of accessibility options including being able to reorganise inventory locations on your body, improved lefty controls, height tweaks and more. All essentials for a seamless VR experience.
Quake
The remaster of Quake earlier in 2021 was a welcome surprise. Owners of the game got the update for free and it opened up the doors to new fans to see what the fuss was about. Just before Christmas, a new update was pushed adding a hoard mode of its own, with added co-op. They’ve also added the add-on content Honey, which will have you delving crypts. Finding new ways to play Quake in 2022 is honestly incredible, and the game is a god-like classic for a reason, able to hold its own among recent game releases that play more like high fidelity dog sh*t.
