Every morning before I go into work, I make sure to pick up a coffee from the cafe next door. Why?
Because I like the atmosphere and the people, sure, but also because it feels that if I don’t get my morning cup of Joe, I won’t function for the rest of the day. I am not the only person who thinks this. If you work in a more physically-demanding job, it is recommended to have a cup of black coffee before you start work. The caffeine increases the adrenaline levels in the blood. It also lowers the risk of death – this is definitely applicable to cancer, strokes, obesity (as coffee burns calories from its inclusion of magnesium and potassium) and it also lowers your risk of depression and suicide.
Coffee can also protect your brain. This can be looked at on multiple levels. Fatigue is an obvious one. Caffeine is known for giving you a bit of a buzz. It also fixes broken pathways, increases memory consolidation and contains nutritional values that keep your mental ability fresh. Coffee has been known to also reduce the possibility of Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Doesn’t sound so bad, right? You have nothing to worry about when you get your morning mocha with two sugars and a cheeky marshmallow on the side.
