Eco-Friendly Islands Are The Craze In Copenhagen
Every man is an island the saying goes. In Copenhagen, a system of eco-friendly interlocked floating islands will soon be popping up to provide a new space for the public to socialise at.
Named The Copenhagen Islands, the new space will be free and open to the public. Designed by Marshall Blecher and Studio Fokstrot, the man-made ecosystem will feature endemic plants, trees and grass, providing an environment for bugs and insects. Watch out for environment hippies, it’ll provide a new home for plants, trees and grasses while also offering a sustainable underwater care, be it for seaweed or fish. The eco-friendly floating islands will highlight the crucial ways in which Copenhagen’s population should be caring for their future. They are also very flexible in their use and made using sustainably sourced and recycled materials.
To make these islands into a reality, traditional boat building techniques will be utilised and will move seasonally to different parts of the harbour.
The first prototypes of the islands were launched in 2018, and became an award-favourite, becoming a finalist for various prestigious design prizes.
