Tudor Black Bay GMT S&G
The Black Bay line has been blessed this year with two Steel & Gold models. The Black Bay GMT S&G is the watch for the travelling man, able to account for multiple timezones. Reference time is tracked by an angular “snowflake” hand, while local time is indicated by a shorter “snowflake” hand. A rotating 24 hour bezel also adds the dynamism required to track a third time. The bezels duo-tone is used as an added visual guide between night and day.
The case is made of 316L stainless steel and yellow gold, 41 mm in diameter, with a bidirectional rotating bezel in yellow gold and an insert in black and brown anodised aluminium.
It’s powered by the Calibre MT5652, loved by watchmaking purists for its adaptable architecture being able to include new functions in its movements without the need for added modules.
Much like its Black Bay Compatriot Chrono compatriot, it comes with three different bracelets to choose from; the Riveted steel and yellow gold bracelet, brown leather strap, or black fabric strap with beige band and buckle.
Tudor Black Bay Chrono S&G
Tudor has been following two strands of DNA for its watches; one line has concentrated on the world of motorsport with the Oysterdate in the 70s, while the other has been their strong line of professional diver’s watches. The new Black Bay Chrono S&G is the culmination of these two disciplines colliding into a single high-performance automatic Manufacture Calibre, with column wheel and vertical clutch.
The recognisable characteristics of the Black Bay are preserved in a steel and yellow gold case with a 41-millimetre diameter. It’s warterproof to 200m and is powered by the Calibre MT5813 with tungsten rotors. It has a 70 hour power reserve and exceeds both Tudor’s and the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institutes (COSC) exacting standards.
There’s a bracelet for every occasion which dramatically shifts the feel and celebrates the watch in different ways. Personally, I think the Riveted 316L steel and yellow gold bracelet with polished and satin finish works a treat. But the dark brown leather strap with removable bund with steel folding clasp and safety catch or black fabric strap with buckle are also good for less showy occasions.
