For in excess of a century, Mercedes-Benz has been in the forefront of the motoring industry, constantly pushing the envelope in terms of vehicle design, style and technology. The 3-Pointed-Star is synonymous with luxury and desirability and with an envious range of vehicles that includes compacts, sedans, shooting brakes and SUV’s, Mercedes-Benz is a brand that is a welcomed addition to virtually any driveway.
However, it’s often their performance arm ‘AMG’ that commands the most attention and not without just cause. Hand picking models from the range, AMG turns their already impressive automobiles into head turning high-performance vehicles that ‘pop’ both figuratively and literally.
With the growth in popularity of SUV’s, Mercedes-AMG high performance team have focussed their attention on everything from the large and the utilitarian models such as the G 63 and GLS 63 to the nimble and exciting GLA 45 (and everything in between) – quite literally taking ‘Sport and Performance’ to all new heights. Since its launch in 2015, the GLC has proven to be one of the brand’s most sought after nameplates and as such more than warrants Mercedes-AMG recognition – Introducing the GLC 63 S 4MATIC+ and Coupe.
From nose to tail the new GLC 63 S 4MATIC+ oozes athleticism. Featuring the AMG Panamericana grille (which was previously reserved for the AMG GT family), muscular shoulders and powerful lines all designed to increase your pulse rate, while distinctive taillights and the AMG rear apron with diffuser and diffuser board in black add in more expressiveness. The AMG sports exhaust system provides visual accent to the rear with two chrome-plated twin tailpipe trim elements and the exhaust system itself has flap technology for variable engine sound.
Unique to the segment is the AMG 4.0L V8 biturbo engine. It produces 375 kW of power and a whopping 700 Nm of earth moving torque. Acceleration from zero to 100 km/h is achieved in just 3.8 seconds, and the top speed is 250 km/h (electronically limited). The AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9-speed transmission offers fast multiple downshifts and the double-declutching function make for a highly emotive gearshift experience.
All that power is nothing without traction and the GLC S 4MATIC+ has this more than covered with the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive. This intelligent system gives fully variable torque distribution to the front and rear axles ensuring optimal traction right up to the physical limit and couples this to the new AMG suspension with fully supporting multi-chamber air suspension, providing exceptionally high levels of camber stability, driving dynamics and steering precision.
Making sure you’re sitting pretty (regardless of what surface you’re heading out on), the GLC 63 S 4MATIC+ interior comes with an extensive equipment package, including a Performance steering wheel in black nappa leather / DINAMICA microfibre, AMG badges in the front head restraints in combination with leather appointments and AMG instrument cluster with red highlights, while the AMG sports seats provide optimal lateral stability in banking.
The Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S underlines the brand’s commitment to strive for continued automotive excellence, combining desirability and prestige with emotive and heart racing performance. So whether it’s going to the store, to the track or to the other end of the country, the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S has the ability to turn them all into power trips.
