Reese Barragar, Senior Commercial Broker, Talks Fixing Mistakes
What’s your morning routine?
Every morning I try and take a few seconds to acknowledge how grateful I am for what I have; such as a loving family, my health and close friends. I feel this makes me start on a positive note and sets me up for the day.
On Tues/Thurs, I’m up at 5am and off to the gym, then to work for an early start by 6:30am. Mon/Wed/Fri I’m with my family in the morning and then usually off to work by 7:30am.
What advice would you give your 20 year-old self?
Major in Business/Property, be more polite and respectful to others, dream way bigger and set massive goals.
How do you stay motivated?
Having clear goals around work, health, family/relationships and monitoring/measuring how I’m reaching them continuously.
What is the secret to success?
For me, it’s about clarity. That’s the secret. Define it and be very clear what it is for you, write it down, and day by day make it happen. It won’t just happen overnight, but if you’re clear on where you’re heading and have definitive goals, then progressively, your life changes.
What is the worst mistake you’ve made and how did you fix it?
If you’re not making mistakes or having failures, then you are standing still. To me, life is about getting out of your comfort zone and sometimes falling on your face, but having the courage to keep going forward and learning from your mistakes/failures.
I’ve had countless failures/mistakes. Looking back, the worst mistake I made was not investing in property earlier. I fixed this by making my first investment in 2011
What is your advice for people to fund their dream?
Work hard. Nothing comes easy, so work hard and your results/routines/habits will make your dreams capable. That’s it.
What is the best bit of advice, or quote, that resonates with you?
After Ray Kroc was called an overnight success. He responded with “I was an overnight success all right, but 30 years is a long, long night.”
What makes you feel alive?
Water in all forms. Especially getting into the ocean early for a surf, then laying back in the water, looking up at the sky and thinking how lucky I am to be here.
