Sanctuary of the Sea
Summer was definitely an odd one this year for us New Zealanders. Reported as being the North Island’s second wettest and third hottest for the country on record, we didn’t know whether to be slapping on the sunscreen and heading down the beach in our flip-flops or batting-down-the-hatches and preparing for another cyclone.
With the choppy seas and wild winds, the last thing on anyone’s mind was heading out to the sea for a cheeky little vacay, but upon learning of Oceanco’s latest sea-faring supervessel, Aeolus, it wouldn’t be unreasonable of you to dream of floating away in it as the weather hits. It was introduced at the Dubai International Boat Show this year, so it is bound to be good.
Let us take the pleasure of providing you with more detail so you can fully immerse yourself in the dream. Designed by Giles Taylor, Njord and Oceanco with technical partners Lateral, ABB and MTU, the superyacht is like a sanctuary on the sea accommodating enough cabins for guests, family, friends and staff.
With Oceanco’s latest NXT endorsement, the design and technology onboard is out of this world. The NXT endorsement, offered by the company, puts a seal on the fact that all technology used is sustainable to the yacht design. It also looks damn cool. Just look at the outside design and you’ll agree that each angle was thought through to the enth degree. The hull, for example, showcases two super-dynamic front-oriented buttresses, three distinct, glass-clad decks and open-hull designs. A stylish integrated pool and lounging area is cut out on the main deck which leads to a massive staircase offering a space for guests to relax fully, away from the weather.
The inside is a ‘home away from home’, for sure. The quarters feature fully fitted out with function and flow, offering unobstructed views, stunning sunken bathtubs (because what you really need when sitting on water in a big boat is to sit in more water), a gym, an atrium, VIP suites and staff quarters. Big spaces are offered for lounging and dining too. Aeolus uses cactus leather from Italian biometric fabrics powerhouse Desserto to create stunningly chic surfaces. The superyacht isn’t clad in marble either. Desserto has included eggshell embossed in the resin for a more sustainable materials.
Every element is rigorously considered, including sourcing with all sourcing and traceability taken from reputable sources, like Desserto and Oliveri Homes, who work with Global Organic Textile Standard cottons.
