Spider-Man: Homecoming And 3 This Month’s Top Picks
Disney has been dropping Marvel movies on us in an unending attack on our wallets. Captain Marvel was still in theatres by the time Avengers: Endgame dropped, and now without missing a beat, we’re getting the second Spider-man film that isn’t being lead by Sony.
Jon Watts once again takes the directors chair, alongside writer, Chris McKenna, to take on the first film after Endgame. A young Peter Parker (Tom Holland) faces a world that no longer has Iron Man. If that was a spoiler for you, then I’m sorry you’re so tardy at seeing one of the biggest movies of all time. Spiderman is on his European school trip and still summoning the courage to ask out MJ, but Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) has other plans for him as he needs to take on a new threat known as the Elementals. It doesn’t seem that long ago when Superheroes were a risky proposition for a movie, but the sheer weight of Marvel means that when Jake Gyllenhaal mooches into frame as Mysterio, a hero with a fishbowl helmet, no one bats an eye.
Jake Gyllenhaal was almost Spidey in Spider-Man 2, after Tobey Maguire got injured. But it wasn’t to be.
Lion King
CGI has its moments, but not when it comes to conveying a range of emotions on a realistic looking lion. They just don’t have the muscles for it, ya know? James Earl Jones reprises his role as Mufasa, with Simba voiced by Donald Glover. Hans Zimmer and Elton John also return to make sure their original compositions aren’t bastardised.

The Keeper
Here’s your post-war tear jerker biopic for the year. Bernd Trautmann, a German soldier that ends up in England, must prove that he’s no longer the enemy through the human art of football. Not everyone can look past the fact he was a paratrooper decorated with the iron cross.

Crawl
Horror survival at its best, which admittedly doesn’t need to be very good to get that particular honour. Kaya Scodelario (Maze Runner) plays the archetypal Girl Who Must Survive as her home is flooded during a hurricane and consequently infested by crocodiles. This is the home invasion edition of Jaws.
