Nicholas Cage Is Blessing Us With Spider-noir
This might come as news to non-nerds but the new Spider-Noir show starring Nicholas Cage as a black and white spidey is actually him reprising his role as the character.
As one of the quirky side-spideys in the animated Into The Spider-Verse (one of the most highly rated spider-man films out there) I wasn’t entirely expecting him to get his own show, live action no less, but here we are. Feel blessed you’re in this particular universe. The show goes full cliche Noir, leaning so far in you can watch the entire show in your choice of “Authentic Black and White” or “True-Hue Full Color”. The black and white version gives the full Sin City treatment of stark whites to create frames that pop.
As for the story itself. Spider-Noir tells the story of Ben Reilly (Nicolas Cage), a seasoned, down on his luck private investigator in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life, following a deeply personal tragedy, as the city’s one and only superhero. No doubt there will be dames walking into offices. Copious amounts of cigars, and potentially rain for most of the runtime.
Emmy Award-winning director Harry Bradbeer (Fleabag, Killing Eve) is directing and executive producing the first two episodes. Oren Uziel (The Lost City, 22 Jump Street) and Steve Lightfoot (Marvel’s The Punisher, Shantaram) will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers.
This is the first time Cage has starred in a lead role in a TV show. There used to be stigma around taking TV roles for Con Air level talent, but now we live in a time where TV has ascended to being as important (if not more so) than hollywood blockbusters.
