The DIY Solution
Where there’s a will; there’s a way.
Steve Jobs loved computers but didn’t want to have to go all the way into the ‘computer room’ to write his programs – so he focused on bringing the computer over to his desk. He achieved that goal by inventing his mass-produced desktop Apple II. Benjamin Franklin as he grew older, became both near-sighted and long-sighted. Tiring of constantly switching between pairs of eyeglasses, he developed ‘bifocals’ that allowed him to see both near and far without touching his spectacles. And Nicholas Appert answered Napoleon Bonaparte’s call for a way to feed his army when on the move, by devising the canning of food as a form of preservation for later use.
All these inventions came about because there was a gap in the market, where the exact product everyone needed didn’t yet exist. Therefore, someone needed to step up, get creative and solve the curly problem for everybody. The exact same scenario played out for Prestige Surfaces from Melbourne, a company that specialises in cleaning and sealing stone and concrete-based surfaces.
Ten years ago, Prestige Surfaces founder Matt Nash wanted to deliver an even better service to his clients by supplying a product that would protect surfaces for longer. But in order to do that, he needed a sealant that would protect building materials like natural stone and concrete against the ravages that we all know our abrasive Aussie climate brings on over time. The problem was – at that time there were no products in the market that were even remotely up to the job.
So it was time for Matt to bust out his white lab coat and he got busy creating a new penetrating sealant that would in fact protect natural stone, man-made stone and concrete from staining, weathering, salt and corrosion. By incorporating leading German technologies, Matt finally emerged victorious with his masterpiece; #JUSTSEALIT.
The Power of High Quality Protection
A unique penetrating sealant #JUSTSEALIT absorbs into the substrate without affecting any stone materials’ natural colour, texture or slip rating. As well as protecting from even the harshest climatic conditions Australia can throw at it, #JUSTSEALIT also provides an easy-to-maintain finish. This has made it ideal for use in a multitude of high traffic settings for both indoor and predominantly outdoor including tile/paving work and pool paving. And, as a result, tens of thousands of metres of natural stone and concrete surfaces have been treated with #JUSTSEALIT all over Australia. These include everything from high traffic surfaces at Melbourne Airport, Deakin University, hotels and shopping centres through to the stonework in luxury homes across Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney. #JUSTSEALIT has also been the chosen stone protector on The Block TV show since 2013.
It is little surprise really that so many large construction projects have invested in a #JUSTSEALIT treatment when you consider the rationale that if you are spending so much on exposed stonework and concrete, you want to make sure it lasts for as long as possible to maximise your money’s worth.
Prestige Surfaces’ experience with #JUSTSEALIT is the kind of success story we probably don’t celebrate enough here in Australia. Too often we marvel at high profile innovation stories from overseas and end up overlooking the ones at home. Yet Prestige Surfaces have proved that the same spirit of creativity is well and truly alive and thriving here too.
