Waking the Iron Tiger: Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II, 18 ct Everose gold
This year among all the new watches released Rolex was also determined to show us that iconic pieces already released are still getting a lot of love. The Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona and Sky-Dweller were both unveiled with new configurations but our personal favourite had to be the Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II.
The 40mm diameter case now holds within it a striking iron tiger dial full of natural reds, auburns and yellows. This natural stone is a combination of tiger’s eye, red jasper and hematite. It’s drop dead gorgeous and it’s warm tones are further enhanced by the case made of 18ct everose gold with a brown and black Cerachrom bezel insert.
It’s guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 100 metres (330 feet) with a Twinlock crown, with a double waterproofness system that screws down securely against the case.
The GMT-Master II has been fitted with calibre 3285 which has been home to the GMT-Master II since it was first introduced in 2018. It provides the model with the date function and an additional time zone in 24-hour format, as well as the hours, minutes and seconds. It has a self winding system via a perpetual rotor with a power reserve of around 70 hours.
The date function at the 3 o’clock has a cyclops lens for increased legibility built into the virtually scratchproof sapphire, and includes an anti-reflective coating.
The bracelet features the Easylink comfort extension link if you need an extra couple mm of comfort, and making sure it doesn’t come off is the Oysterlock folding safety clasp.
Overall it’s a beautiful piece which immediately leaped out at us.
