Win Charlebois, CEO of The Diamond Shop, Talks The Secret of Success
What advice would you give your 20 year-old self?
I have found that adventure is the true ‘elixir’ of life. Follow your dreams to achieve inner peace.
What is the secret to success?
Inner peace of mind, a healthy body and the ability to help others achieve the same.
What is the worst mistake you’ve made and how did you fix it?
My worst mistake was not following my moral compass, the fix was not to make the same mistake twice.
What is your advice for people to fund their dream?
It would depend on the dream, as some dreams don’t require money; often they are the best dreams to achieve. If the dream relates to business creation and it’s been proven to be scalable but don’t have the funds to create it yourself, use OPM (other people’s money). There are many avenues to achieve this.
What is the best bit of advice, or quote, that resonates with you?
In business I have learned: “One doesn’t make money fast, but often loses money fast”. It takes time to build a business and create wealth.
How do you keep up to date with current affairs?
I read the New Zealand Herald online, Bloomberg online, listen to National news on the car radio and watch Reuters news on Netflix.
What is the secret of living a longer, more successful life?
For body health, I recommend eating plant based food, little or no meat, fish, gluten free, dairy free and very little or no alcohol. Good health is about maintaining a strong immune system and strong gut health. I recommend reading ‘Feel Great & Live Longer’ by Jason Shon Bennett, a brilliant Kiwi nutrition expert. I also recommend constant life long exercise like tennis, walking, dancing; anything that gives your muscles a workout and that you enjoy doing.
Becoming successful in life is a very personal thing. I would suggest that you work out what success means to you and strive to create what that looks like. These goals may change over time and that’s okay as wise people often change their thoughts based on ongoing experiences.
