Two MMO’s To Grind Away Autumn
Got time to kill? Then it’s time to kill… Mobs, and lots of them.
Zenith
Oculus, SteamVR, PlaystationVR
Zenith is the VR MMO I have been waiting for. It has none of the jankiness of OrbusVR, learning from a couple years of VR gaming mistakes. Made by only a team of 15, its come out the gates strong as a bare bones MMO with none of the fluff. In many ways it feels like a very oldschool MMO experience, but it has the structure for much more to be added. By the time you’re reading this, it might already have fishing and player housing.
Currently there are two classes to choose from; a dual blade wielding Blade Master for melee combat, and the ranged Essence Mages, that can conjure different spells with nothing but a gesture. You can gather ingredients from around the world and then go through an entire cooking exercise, boiling pots, satisfyingly cutting ingredients, and then force feeding your meals to strangers by holding it up to their face for some great buffs.
Travel is facilitated by being able to climb anywhere (with a BOTW-style stamina metre) and gliding by holding your arms out in a T pose. Being able to slightly adjust your hand tilt to control height and velocity feels so good.
If you’re looking for the most social MMO experience of your life while killing random baddies in a field all day, then I couldn’t recommend it more.
Lost Ark
Oops, I spent this whole time talking about Zenith. Lost Ark feels like Diablo in MMO form. The combat is solid, the visuals are beautiful, perfect time waster. I give it a Fine out of 10.
