M2 2021 Luxury Watch Preview: TAG Heuer
TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph
It’s so gratifying when two like-minded individuals finally get together as a couple – and that’s exactly what’s happened with famous Swiss luxury watchmaker TAG Heuer and German sportscar makers Porsche. After several test drives together over the years with the Heuer Monaco chronograph, TAG-Turbo engine and TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team – they’ve come up with a watch that truly reflects both of their brands’ motor racing DNA.
The TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph reflects a name steeped in history for both brands, through the Porsche model and original Heuer Carrera chronograph. Porsche’s logo is right there on the bezel along with the engraved tachymeter scale while the red, black and grey colours and Arabic numerals are reflective of Porsche sportscar styling. Plus, the dial’s asphalt effect was created especially for this watch. Inside is the in-house Calibre Heuer 02 manufacture movement with an impressive 80-hour power reserve. The chronograph mechanism’s vertical clutch and column wheel are visible through the transparent crystal case back as is the oscillating mass, redesigned in affectionate tribute to Porsche’s celebrated steering wheel. The TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph comes with either on a soft calf leather strap or interlocking bracelet and with a black travel pouch.
TAG Heuer Aquaracer Bamford Limited Edition
In this age of mass production, a lot of individual personalisation has been lost – and that’s why companies like Bamford Watch Department were formed; to redress this imbalance by focusing on creating customised luxury timepieces. Now they have partnered up with TAG Heuer to deliver an inventive take on the classic Aquaracer.
The resulting Aquaracer Bamford Limited Edition is a new and exciting tool watch featuring bold orange details. This statement piece boasts Bamford name at six o’clock on the black dial along with orange dashes on the black-gold-plated hands, unidirectional rotating bezel and around the flange. The hands and indexes have been treated with white Super-LumiNova® to improve visibility in all lighting conditions and at every depth down to 300m. The 43mm case and bezel have been made of grade 2 titanium which is hypoallergenic and resistant to corrosion – which also explains why it is also often used in aeronautics – while inside the case ticks a Calibre 5 automatic-winding movement. The back is engraved with ‘LIMITED ONE OF 1,500’ and this elegant timepiece comes on a sandblasted titanium 2 three-row bracelet with folding clasp, double safety push buttons and diving extension.
