Here’s Everything To Do To Make The Most Of Your Next Queenstown Visit
Queenstown remains one of the country’s most beloved domestic holiday spots and is great to visit any time of year. If you’re making the journey down to the southern paradise in the near future, here’s five terrific ways to fill in the days.
HIKING
Many will know that Queenstown is renowned for its sensational scenery which makes for an ideal backdrop when out on a long walk. Whether you’re strolling along the banks of the gorgeous Lake Wakatipu or gazing down at the world below from the summit of the magnificent Ben Lomond mountain, there’s really not a bad place in town to chuck on your walking shoes and go exploring.
MOUNTAIN BIKING
If you like to see the sights a bit faster, jump on a two-wheel and ride the towns best tracks on a mountain bike. The vast collection of mountains and hills in Queenstown makes for an abundance of awesome downhill tracks, most notably the Rude Rock Mountain Bike Trail at Coronet Peak, which offers a terrific route for riders of all abilities. If you’ve got time for a quick jaunt inland, the entire Otago region is absolutely ripe with awesome biking tracks and trails, so if Queenstown isn’t quite enough for you, you’re but a stone’s throw away from a whole lot more!
BREWERIES
While the South Island is so often associated with its collection of fantastic, world-renowned wineries and vineyards, Queenstown plays home to a more modest collection of terrific independent breweries. If you’re a longtime fan of craft beer or just looking for a nice spot to sit and enjoy a drink while trying something new, any of the three most popular spots; Altitude Brewery, Searchlight Brewing and Canyon Brewing are well worth a visit.
GOLF
Whether you’re a total novice or a single-handicapper, there are plenty of great options for a ‘knock-around’ in and around the Queenstown area. Nearby are three of the country’s most elite courses; Millbrook Resort and The Hills in Arrowtown, and Jack’s Point which sits at the foot of The Remarkables, all of which have hosted major international tournaments in the past. Alternatively, the town hosts a truly unique golfing experience in the form of the Over The Top par-3 course, which, in typical Queenstown fashion, is only accessible via a stunning helicopter ride!
ADVENTURE
Of course, we’d be remiss without mentioning the myriad of incredible adventure activities that the town has practically become synonymous with. You don’t garner the nickname ‘Adventure Capital of the World’, by accident, and Queenstown more than lives up to that moniker with its gluttony of thrilling activities. From the iconic AJ Hackett bungy and canyon swing, to the exhilarating Shotover Jet and Skippers Canyon to a number of paragliding and skydiving options, there truly is no better place in the world to get the blood pumping and chase the adrenaline rush with a once-in-a-lifetime adventure activity (or two… if your heart can handle it!)
