Man on the Street – Eddie Jack
Age: 44 Occupation: Electric bike tour and rental company owner and lawyer
What do you have for breakfast? So this morning I had some roasted cauliflower and broccoli, some sliced chorizo, a fried egg on top, and just an ocean of olive oil. So it’s low carb, high healthy fat. It’s a way of life.
What is your morning routine? So because we’re getting into winter time, I’ll head down to V Bike, which is down in Westhaven, it’s indoor cycling studio. So it’s really good kinda measurable training, and it’s nice and safe. Then I’ll finish the training, go and have a coffee with some coconut oil in it. And then something healthy for breakfast, and then down to work at Power to the Pedal.
What’s your dream car? It’s probably the one that I’ve got which is a 1979 series 3 Land Rover. It’s sand coloured, it’s got period correct rust and it drives like an absolute pig, but I love it.
What is the top spot on your bucket list? It would be heli-skiing in Alaska.
What advice would you give your 20 year old self? Move to New Zealand, it’s awesome.
How do you stay motivated? It sounds really cheesy but when I get customers who haven’t used electric bikes and I see the look of surprise and delight on their faces when they’re riding it for the first time. It’s just nice to get more converts to the electric bike movement.
If you didn’t need money, what would you do? Selfishly, I’d probably travel the world following cycle races.
What is your secret to success? So apart from my good looks – I think from the business perspective, it’s just looking at my customer’s experience, and trying to work out how I can make it even better. So it’s not being complacent and just consistently refining things.
What is your best 1 liner? So you say to someone, “Hey you, what are you doing in my garden?” Which I’ve nicked from a British comic, Michael Redmond, and I think it’s the best 1 liner ever, but it takes a while to digest.
What are your favourite restaurants to frequent? We live in Mount Eden, so we’re eating locally a lot at the moment. So Cazador, Meredith’s, Frasers Cafe, Bolaven and Kiss Kiss.
What is your secret to living a long and satisfying life? Eating well and exercise. But eating well’s the most important. So whole foods, nothing processed. Like I said before, the low carb, high healthy fat diet.
