27-year-old Diego Poncelet was already an accomplished two-time downhill champion, but that just wasn’t enough. In September he set the Guinness World Record for the fastest skateboard speed in a standing position. Poncelet once had early ambitions to be a Formula One driver, so it makes sense that he’d push the technology of his chosen […]

Through an unassuming door in the side of a hillock just a short walk from Debert airfield in Nova Scotia are four storeys of doomsday opulence. Preppers come in all shapes and sizes, with all sorts of price ranges. The super rich aren’t trying to do it DIY like the people in South Dakota turning […]

The latest belongs to Cartier, which has opened its first boutique in Auckland. The new boutique is Cartier’s eighth boutique in the Oceania region. Designed as an […]
Earlier in the issue we covered how to ensure you and your family are going to survive the apocalypse in style. Now that we’ve got the most important thing sorted, we can get into the second most important thing: how your supercars are going to survive. Why not underground in this incredible 2,250m² uh… A […]
Shane van Gisbergen – known universally as SVG – is a racing icon. 3 Bathurst 1000 wins. 80 Supercars wins – 16% of his starts. A jump to NASCAR in the USA, where he won his very first NASCAR race and is now the winningest rookie. There are lots more records, but you get the picture. […]
Florence Pugh’s new Netflix limited series East of Eden grabbed 4 million views in 4 days shooting it to the top of the Netflix charts and getting positive reviews from both audiences and critics. This makes it possibly the most popular thing to be exported from Ōamaru. Based on the 1952 novel by John Steinbeck, […]
Imagine, if you would, a mighty great storm being sculpted – the rolling clouds thundering towards you. Or a vast blue ocean choreographed with its towering waves crashing down. Or invisible forces of nature transformed into something you could stand inside. For New Zealand multimedia artist and composer Jesse Woolston, his imagination is only the […]
Then there are authors whose literary arguments ran so deep they transcended ‘concept’ and moved into ‘paradigm change’ for their impact on our thinking. George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four is possibly the ultimate example of this where his depiction of the future was so intimidating, we immediately categorise any totalitarian governance, social manipulation and/or invasive surveillance […]
Robert Pattinson is so hot right now. Over the last year or so he’s been in everything from Bong Joon Ho’s sci-fi satire Mickey 17 to The Drama and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, with Primetime and Dune: Part Three thrown in for good measure. Then there’s The Batman Part II just over the horizon too. […]
Before each big move in his career, Kieran Byrne says, he has been “genuinely nervous” about what comes next. His path has taken him from power systems engineering to an MBA in London, management consulting, and a succession of roles at One NZ. He is now the company’s Chief Financial Officer. “You step into the […]
‘Recently I went to Invercargill on business…’ – say that intro in a bar or cafe and you have to pause out of courtesy, like a stand-up comedian, to allow your listeners time to insert their hoots of derision and/or region-specific jokes. I know the drill, I’ve heard it all before; I once spent a […]
Style demands bold choices. Bold choices demand stepping outside the confines of acceptability. The world’s finest watch houses instruct their master craftsmen to do this on a regular basis. Sometimes in the service of the technology itself, or the materials used, but always in the name of creativity and free expression. We’ve collected some of […]
100 Years of Oyster The Oyster Perpetual is usually a reserved, refined piece, a symbol of Rolex’s legacy. The Oyster Perpetual was literally crowned to symbolise the celebration of 100 years of Oyster, the first waterproof watch Rolex ever made. Rather than move into the centenary with quiet poise, Rolex is going in with a […]
Let’s Dual In a series about the weird and wonderful you can’t pass up the Armin Strom Dual Time Resonance Sapphire for weirdness. Its striking oval shape is in service of two vertically stacked, independent movements, eschewing the standard and humdrum side-by-side movement architecture. They weren’t joking around with the Dual Time Resonance in their […]
Grand Seiko’s Spring Drive In Shinshu, Japan, there are two things of note. One is the Micro Artist Studio where master craftsmen hand-craft the Grand Seiko Spring Drive watches for the Masterpiece Collection. Then there is the Tateshina Waterfall found nearby in a primeval forest which served as the inspiration for the watches, of which […]
At the 2026 Monterey Car Week, McLaren Automotive revealed the McL 6GT. The first McLaren car of its kind, its design connects McLaren’s heritage to the present, using the McLaren M6GT – Bruce McLaren’s original but unfulfilled supercar dream – as its inspiration. While this is just a concept at the moment, a production version […]
The Bugatti W16 Mistral ‘La Perle Rare’ is a design all unto itself. A bespoke vehicle made for a mysterious client. The only thing we know about them is that they have taste and the money to make it happen. The journey towards the beautifully individual hypercar unfolded in August 2023 on the lawns of […]
The eighth-generation Lexus ES is here, and it means business in a quiet, refined kind of way. Lexus has given one of its best-known sedans a proper rethink: new proportions, a more connected cabin and, for the first time, a fully electric version alongside two hybrids. I got behind the wheel of the entry-level ES […]
I wanted to see if I could take an ev away for the weekend and treat it like any other car. So, I booked the sealink ferry, picked up toyota’s bz4x touring and headed to waiheke. I had a few days planned at fleetwood and delamore lodge, and I wanted to see how the car […]
Jeff Bezos’ 417-foot sailing superyacht recently stopped by New Zealand. In a way, it feels like it’s come home, considering it’s named Koru. At the time of its commissioning it was the second-largest sailing yacht in the world. The title for largest goes to the simply titled “A”. It’s a beautiful boat with a classic […]
Tester Tim takes four of Ducati’s most potent bikes to the track in Sydney. If you can’t find the bike in your country, find the country that has it. I’ve been lusting after the Ducati Streetfighter and Panigale S versions for some time. New Zealand is a small market without press bikes for these top-spec […]

Through Bond and Spectre, OMEGA asks us the question: which side will you choose? […]

PARISIAN’s edit links four […]
It’s a given that Taika Waititi would be swanning with the stars. He is, after all, their puppet master in a way. During the Venice Film Festival he was spotted at the Ca’ Corner della Regina for Miu Miu’s annual dinner held in honour of the Women’s Tales initiative. Taika has often been seen sporting […]
Travis Kelce may not be a name or a face that means much to us here in New Zealand, unless you happen to be a rare NFL fan, or know who Taylor Swift’s husband is, but hey, we’re here less for the celebrity and more for the fits provided by Tommy Hilfiger for their latest […]
Season 2 of The Gentlemen has dropped and with it our jaws, as the whole cast get a noticeable upgrade in their fits. Apparently it was difficult getting brands on board with Season 1, not to say they were completely out in the rain. It’s reported that they wore over US$12 million in watches for […]

Or rather Ted Baker has got you… Enter this new capsule collection, made in association with The Gentlemen. Stealing the iconic Gentlemen style for yourself is easier than it looks. All you […]
When getting recommendations of where to go around Brisbane, most locals will tell you to leave entirely. Not because the city is bad per se; it’s just not where the locals hang out. That was the same experience I had in Vegas speaking to any local I came across. They stayed the hell away from […]
Earlier this year, while visiting his father-in-law’s seaside village of Lavos in Portugal, Hāngi Master Rewi Spraggon cooked a hāngī for about 60 members of his Portuguese whānau. The feast combined local ingredients with familiar hāngī staples: rabbit marinated in red wine, duck with mandarin and local beer, and pork and chicken brined with salt […]
Marlborough might have conquered the world with Sauvignon Blanc, but tucked away in the Wairau Valley, something rather magnificent has been happening with Chardonnay. If you mention Marlborough to anyone with even a passing interest in wine, they’ll almost certainly say Sauvignon Blanc. And fair enough. It’s the wine that put New Zealand on the […]
As we come to the end of the year (already!), the Siena International Photo Awards winners are also being announced. The spotlight shone brightly on Stefano Rosselli, Mohammad Dadsetan and George Steinmetz as they were honoured as the grand prize winners on Saturday 10 October, at the Teatro dei Rinnovati in Siena during the Siena […]
When Daniel Berry joined Dalton Electrical as an apprentice, he expected to wire lights and power points. His first day instead involved helping relocate an asphalt plant. Nearly 20 years later, he leads an industrial electrical and automation business focused on New Zealand’s manufacturing and processing sectors. Berry was about 18 or 19, and the […]
When Person of Interest first showed up on Netflix, I didn’t bother. It just looked like the usual post-9/11 American alarmist junk, sketching caricatures of babble-headed terrorists thwarted by heroic government agents’ oppressive surveillance techniques. Years later, I gave it another crack and was shocked to realise I’d been completely wrong. Sure, it looked like […]
Skills Group CEO Rosanne Graham shares ten lessons on stepping up, making the tough calls and knowing what success actually means to you. Being good at your job can get you promoted. Then comes the slightly uncomfortable discovery that the next job requires you to stop doing quite so much of it yourself. Suddenly, your […]
Someone questions your decision. They haven’t finished speaking, but you’ve already started preparing your defence. You know the background. You’ve done this before. They don’t understand the pressures. Perhaps all of that is true. But you’ve stopped listening. We like to think we welcome feedback. What we sometimes welcome is agreement, delivered with enough intelligence […]
Rick Beato is absolutely serving right now. The grey-haired, 64-year-old American producer, engineer and music educator is now the ultimate Dad Rock icon on YouTube. With nearly 6 million subscribers and over 2 billion total views he leaves serious global brands like Tame Impala, The 1975 and even Foo Fighters in his wake. So what […]
New Year, new you and all that nonsense. But I think there’s something to be said for new beginnings, a blank sheet of paper, a bit of a reset. New Year’s resolutions famously fail spectacularly. Apparently only 9% of people keep New Year’s resolutions, if they make them at all. Personally I find that a […]
Motorola, Meet Swarovski Motorola has gone from luxury to straight up jewellery with their latest collaboration with Swarovski, who have bedazzled their devices with crystals. The Motorola Razr has been wrapped in a luxe 3D quilted texture and finished with 35 hand-placed Swarovski crystals functioning as a design where precision meets pure brilliance. Even the […]
Way back in the Covid era in 2020 in this section of the magazine I spoke about a little movie coming out called Dune. Dune: Part Three Way back in the Covid era in 2020 in this section of the magazine I spoke about a little movie coming out called Dune. “The legendary Frank Herbert […]
Is it better to try and fail than to never try at all? If over a decade of advice from our success section is to be believed, yes. You can say a lot of things about Tom Cruise’s Digger, but one thing you can’t say is that they didn’t try. The movie does a lot, […]
I like to do my bit for conservation, or at least that’s what I tell myself to sound noble for getting BurgerFuel’s new limited-edition Wild & Wagyu. It uses ethically recovered wild venison through the Fiordland Wapiti Foundation’s long-running deer management programme and wild venison company WITHWILD. “Wild venison is one of New Zealand’s best-kept […]
I have to admit: I’ve missed Sky. I got rid of it after NZR appointed Fozzie as All Blacks coach back in late 2019 in a truly ridiculous and ill-judged promotion. Even when Razor was appointed in 2023, I remained suspicious – and wisely so as it turned out. Yet, upon Dave Rennie’s glorious ascension […]
